How It All Began

In 1989 David Gindy had a vision. He wanted to create a summer camp experience unlike anything South Florida had ever seen. Not just a place to drop off children for the summer, but a place where young imaginations would be ignited, where children would discover talents they never knew they had, and where every single day would be something they could not wait to tell their parents about.

That vision became FunCamps. What started as a single magic-themed program has grown over 37 years into one of the most acclaimed and recognized summer camp organizations in the United States. Today FunCamps operates three locations across South Florida at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Pinecrest Community Center, and Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, serving thousands of children each summer with eight unique specialty programs.

Our Philosophy

At FunCamps we believe that summer should be the best part of a child's year. Every program we offer is designed with three things in mind: education, excitement and safety. We never sacrifice one for the other. Our campers learn real skills, receive real supplies and materials to take home, and leave each session with something tangible they created or discovered during their time with us.

We also believe deeply in the importance of the whole child. Beyond the specialty programs, every FunCamps day includes outdoor activities, social time, special guest performers and events that build confidence, teamwork and lasting friendships. Many of our campers return summer after summer, advancing through skill levels and growing into young leaders who inspire the newer campers around them.
